The 2015 APG Typologies and Capacity Building Workshop was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 16-20 November 2015, hosted by the Government of Nepal.
The workshop involved approximately 230 delegates from 38 jurisdictions and ten international organisations, as well as 39 representatives from the private sector. The workshop was co-chaired by APG Typologies Working Group (TYWG) Co-Chairs Razim Buksh (Fiji) and Bazarragchaa Tumurbat (Mongolia).

This year’s workshop included a keynote address from the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, a case study presentation by Nepal, an update on key typologies projects of regional and international interest and a panel and plenary discussion, and a presentation from Australia on recent trends in money laundering and terrorist financing. In addition to the plenary discussions there were three parallel breakout sessions on:
- assessing regional developments with TF;
- securing a Financial Intelligence Unit; and
- wildlife crime financial flows.
The breakout sessions were co-chaired/facilitated by the following:
- Australian Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre
- TRACFIN, France
- Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units
- United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
- American Bar Association
- Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Nepal
Prior to the typologies workshop, on Sunday 15 November, a joint APG/Egmont Group seminar was held for the 16 financial intelligence units (FIUs) in the APG region that are members of the APG, but not yet members of the Egmont Group. The seminar covered information on the Egmont Group membership process, and sharing experiences and lessons learned by FIUs in the APG’s third round of mutual evaluations.
Sponsorship funding for priority delegates to attend and contribute to this event was provided by APG members China and Chinese Taipei.
The APG thanks sincerely China and Chinese Taipei for their support and the Government of Nepal and Nepal Rastra Bank for the excellent hosting arrangements.
