Nauru Mutual Evaluation Onsite Visit - 9-16 October 2023
The onsite visit for Nauru’s 2nd mutual evaluation was conducted from 9 to 16 October 2023 in Yaren, Nauru.
The mutual evaluation team consisted of the following experts:
- Adair Fincher, Palau (Legal Assessor)
- Kota Ito, Japan (Financial Assessor)
- Kirsty Pleace, New Zealand (Financial Assessor)
- Walter Henry, Cook Islands (FIU Assessor)
- Tai-Chin Yuan, Chinese Taipei (Law Enforcement Assessor)
The team was supported by Mitali Tyagi and Marnie Campbell of the APG Secretariat.
This mutual evaluation assesses both technical compliance with the FATF international standards and also the effectiveness of Nauru’s implementation of AML/CFT measures, as required under the 2013 FATF assessment methodology.
During the onsite visit, the evaluation team held meetings with government authorities and representatives from the private sector. During the visit the team also met with the Honourable Pyon Deiye, Minister for Justice and Border Control, Government of the Republic of Nauru.
The evaluation team acknowledges the cooperation and assistance of the Nauruan authorities, and the hospitality extended to the team during the onsite visit.
Nauru’s mutual evaluation report will be considered and adopted at the next APG Annual Meeting in 2024.
