Niue ME onsite Visit – 25 November – 5 December 2024
Niue reached an important milestone in their global fourth round mutual evaluation journey last week with the conclusion of their onsite visit.
A mutual evaluation is a comprehensive peer review process that applies the Financial Action Task Force’s Methodology for assessing technical compliance with the FATF’s global standards for combatting money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation financing, and the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) measures. The onsite visit provides the opportunity for the assessment team to sit down and talk with Niue officials and private sector representatives to determine the scope of AML/CTF measures and how they are working in practice.
An APG assessment team spent two weeks in Niue from 25 November to 5 December conducting interviews with the Niue authorities and representatives as part of the onsite visit.
The assessment team consists of the following experts drawn from APG jurisdictions:
- Moira Konrote, Fiji (legal assessor)
- Anna Liza Guevarra, Philippines (financial assessor)
- Epenesa Laban, Samoa (financial assessor)
- Jimmy Sendersley, Solomon Islands (FIU / law enforcement assessor)
The team was supported by Carolyn Marsden, Caroline Bicheno and Marnie Campbell of the APG Secretariat. Jimmy Sendersley and Marnie Campbell participated in the onsite visit virtually.
The assessment team thanked the Niue authorities for their cooperation, engagement and hospitality at a reception hosted by the Niue Prime Minister, the Hon Dalton Tagelagi, to mark the successful completion of the onsite visit.
Niue’s mutual evaluation report will be considered and adopted at the next APG Annual Meeting in 2025.
