Malaysia hosts the 2024 APG Typologies Workshop in Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia’s Central Bank (Bank Negara Malaysia) generously hosted the workshop, which was attended by over 150 delegates from 32 members, seven observers and over 60 private sector participants. The Typologies Workshop is a great opportunity for officials and subject matter experts from across the APG network to share experiences and challenges in understanding and combating emerging trends for illicit financial flows. This year the event comprised two streams: 1) abuse of legal persons and 2) cyber-enabled fraud. The workshop included presentations and panel discussions with operational leaders and civil society, moderated by experts, and various networking events including an official dinner at the Lanai Kijang on 11 November 2024.
On 11 November 2024, Deputy Governor Marzunisham Omar of Bank Negara Malaysia and APG Executive Secretary, Dr Chris Black, opened the workshop, followed by adoption of the APG’s Typologies Report 2024.
The delegates then split into two streams; the first led by Malaysia in relation to Cyber-enabled fraud and scams, and the second led by the APG Secretariat in relation to the abuse of legal persons, which is also the subject of the focus chapter in this year’s Typologies Report.
Keynote addresses were delivered by APG Co-Chair Mr Mitsutoshi Kajikawa and Mr Emile J.M. Van Der Does De Willebois from the World Bank and closing remarks were made by Assistant Governor Abd. Rahman Abu Bakar, Bank Negara Malaysia.
