4 May 2015

The government of Myanmar hosted the 2nd APG Implementation Issues Working Group Regional Workshop on Implementing Targeted Financial Sanctions Against Terrorism in Yangon from 29-30 April 2015.

The purpose of the workshop was to ensure that priority APG members understand the importance of effective implementation of legal and institutional frameworks/mechanisms to implement targeted financial sanctions against terrorism pursuant to FATF recommendation 6, through sharing experiences with regional colleagues and technical experts.

35 senior delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand attended.  Facilitators included the Ombudsperson of the UNSCs 1267 Committee (Judge Kimberly Prost); New Zealand; the IMF and the APG secretariat.

The workshop followed a similar event held in Jakarta, Indonesia in September 2014.

The workshop was funded by the government of New Zealand, and chaired by the APG Implementation Issues Working Group Co-Chair, Ms Erin Lubowicz-Johnson, from the New Zealand Ministry of Justice.
