The 2026 APG Annual Meeting and Technical Assistance Forum took place in Brunei Darussalam from 27-31 July, drawing over 380 delegates from across the Asia/Pacific. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Finance, Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank and Co-Chaired by Deputy Vice Minister Mitsutoshi Kajikawa (Japan) and Deputy Commissioner Lesa Gale (Australia).

The meeting included contributions from both the immediate past and incoming APG Co-Chairs: Assistant Deputy Minister Julien Brazeau, Department of Finance, Canada; and Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani, Deputy Minister of Finance, Brunei Darussalam. 

Delegates were welcomed by Minister of Finance II and Minister-in-charge of APG matters in Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah. 

Key Highlights from the 2026 APG Annual Meeting included:

  • Agreement on two-year APG Co-Chairs Strategic Priorities that complement the APG Strategic Plan 2024 – 2028.
  • Brunei Darussalam led a technical seminar on asset recovery, with a focus on non-conviction based forfeiture.
  • Adoption of the initial APG mutual evaluation reports in the Global 5th Round – three joint FATF/APG reports:
  • Detailed discussion and sharing of experiences and best practices for APG members to prepare for and to undergo a Global 5th Round evaluation.
  • Continuing initiatives to enhance support for strategic AML/CFT leadership across the APG membership.
  • Consideration of strategic responses to the regional and global threats from cyber fraud and money laundering, including opportunities to deepen collaboration across the FATF Global Network and follow on actions to the July 2026 APG Cyber Scam Hubs & Human Trafficking Report.
  • Strategic initiatives to enhance and better target international cooperation across the widest range of money laundering and terrorist financing risk areas.
  • Commencement of a new APG typologies project on trade-based money laundering. 

Technical Assistance Forum

The 2026 Forum featured:

  • Participation from 26 APG members and 13 technical assistance donors and providers who met to enhance regional coordination and collaboration on AML/CFT capacity building.
  • 31 meetings, including regional and thematic sessions, and direct donor–member engagements.
  • Consideration of strategic priorities and new agreements for technical assistance delivery in the coming year.
