Joint FATF/APG Assessor Training Workshop, November 2023, Ottawa, Canada
From 20-24 November 2023, the APG and FATF jointly conducted the final APG 3rd round/FATF 4th round assessor training workshop in Ottawa, Canada.
The workshop was hosted by Canada's Department of Finance and attended by 40 delegates from APG and FATF jurisdictions including: Canada; Chinese Taipei; Indonesia; Italy; Kuwait; Macao,China; Mongolia; Papua New Guinea; Saudi Arabia; Thailand; Turkey; and the UAE. Instructors were from Macao,China and Canada's Department of Finance and FINTRAC, as well as from the APG and FATF Secretariats.
During the week delegates worked through the evaluation of a fictional country, including reviewing its legislation and regulations, conducting mock interviews, preparing a TC Annex and Effectiveness Response, drafting a mutual evaluation report and presenting team findings to a mock plenary.
Delegates who successfully completed the course are eligible to act as assessors and reviewers on mutual evaluations and follow-up reports in the next round of evaluations after completing a short update course on the recent changes to the FATF methodology.
The training workshop was supported and funded by the Government of Canada. Canada is an APG and a FATF member, as well as the Co-Chair of the APG and the Vice-President of the FATF.
